This design-build project consisted of the design and construction of a 7,000SF pre- engineered metal building. The purpose of this project was to house a new fitness center and medical facility for the owner. Work included earthwork, cast-in- place concrete, pre-engineered metal buildings, steel framing, rough carpentry, roofing, glass and glazing, specialty flooring, painting, MEP, sidewalks and landscaping.
The fitness center included a weight room, a fitness instruction room, physical therapy and new locker rooms. The weight room and physical therapy rooms received rubber athletic flooring and the fitness instruction room received impact resistant athletic wood flooring. The locker rooms were finished with stainless steel toilet partitions and accessories, new lockers and benches, ceramic tile walls and epoxy flooring. The overhead space was left open to the structure above to maintain an industrial appearance in these spaces. The medical facility included a lobby, reception area, testing lab, exam rooms, a nurse’s station, and individual offices. Flooring in this space consisted of carpet in the corridors, sheet vinyl in the exam rooms and VCT in the offices. Custom casework was installed throughout the space to accommodate the tenant’s needs.
Initially during the design phase, we considered renovating an existing area of the facility to house the new fitness and medical facility. After much consideration it was determined that the addition would better suit the owner’s needs. We worked closely with the owner and future tenants during design providing design documents at all stages. This allowed us to meet the requirements of all involved while also achieving a project within their budget. Working closely with the owner during the design phase also allowed us to accurately design the project, reducing the need for unforeseen change orders.
