Scope of Work: This was a challenging project whereas Rand was the mechanical and plumbing subcontractor for the construction of a 16,000 sq ft addition to an existing Verizon switching center while still maintaining the critical cooling to the existing spaces and without disruption to Verizon's network. Rand performed a majority of the work during the nighttime shutdown window from 12:00 AM to 6:00 AM with approved methods of procedures (MOP's) in place and with our foreman's thorough understanding of the MOP's prior to starting critical cut over and tie-in work. The new addition encompasses (9) new Liebert units with remote roof mounted condensers, electric steam humidification, new Trane 5 ton rooftop units to supplement the existing switching center, new 11,000 CFM McQuay make up air unit, diesel fuel oil system to serve the emergency backup generator, ventilation purge fans, extension and upgrade of the existing building management system and all associated plumbing to support the new addition. Also, upon completion of construction of the project, Rand's Service Dept was awarded the HVAC Service Contract to perform preventative maintenance on this critical cooling equipment.
