Completed: December 2008

Scope of Work: This project included demolition to remove piping, equipment and structural steel from two active ingredient plants within a Bayer CropScience plant site. Rand then reinstalled new foundations, structural steel, flooring, pipe racks, equipment, process and utility piping, modified the vent system and replaced a scrubber, installed in-line and on-line instruments as well as instrumentation pneumatic installation to enable the plant to produce and new high active herbicide.

The work consisted of five Owner's projects which required coordination during the installation. Each plant had its own start date and completion date for the work. The work was done in a very compressed time frame in one of the plants in order to allow the Owner to maintain production schedules. Each plant required modification or installation of structural steel systems and flooring to allow setting of new and existing relocated equipment and installation of new piping systems.

The scope included the setting of approximately 30 new and existing relocated major tagged equipment items and the fabrication and installation of approximately 450 piping lines. Among the major equipment set on the project was a 10 square meter Nutsche filter which weighed 50,000 lbs. This equipment was set on a new structural steel floor installed as part of this contract. The installation of two new cable conveyors and the fabrication and installation of electropolished stainless steel solids handling chutes were also included in this work.

During the course of the project, the Owner awarded Rand additional piping work to install a carbon filtration system in one of the plants as well as nitrogen purging systems and vent system tie-ins to support a future expansion project.
